About

Biography

Widely regarded as one of the most compelling and versatile musicians of his generation, Eldar Nebolsin is also among today’s most sought-after piano pedagogues. His students have received top prizes at many of the world’s leading international competitions, including the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Master Competition, the International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw and the Long–Thibaud International Competition, among many others. In recent years, his passionate commitment to chamber music—as a member of Spectrum Concerts Berlin and in collaboration with artists such as Janine Jansen, Boris Brovtsyn and Jens-Peter Maintz—has resulted in a series of recordings acclaimed by the international press.

Born into a musical family in Tashkent, Eldar Nebolsin launched his international career at the age of seventeen, becoming the youngest-ever winner of the Grand Prize at the Santander International Piano Competition. In 2005, he went on to receive First Prize at the Sviatoslav Richter International Piano Competition in Moscow.

Nebolsin studied with the legendary Russian pedagogue Dmitri Bashkirov and received invaluable artistic guidance from Ralf Gothóni, Márta Gulyás, Ferenc Rados and Andreas Staier. His earliest teachers were his parents and Natalia Wasinkina.

Eldar has performed with orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Orchestre de Paris, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra and many others. His collaborations with distinguished conductors have included Mstislav Rostropovich, Riccardo Chailly, Charles Dutoit, Leonard Slatkin and Vladimir Ashkenazy.

Since 2013, Eldar Nebolsin has served as Professor of Piano at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin. Before taking up this position, he taught chamber music for several years at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid, alongside Menahem Pressler, Márta Gulyás and Ralf Gothóni.

“Eldar’s recording of Rachmaninov Preludes is on my all-time favorites playlist.”
— Menahem Pressler
